Company: Biovotec AS, Norway (Project Coordinator)
Partners: Cica Biomedical Ltd, UK and University Côte d’Azur, France
Project Name: Deepcure (No:12852)
Project duration: 2 years from 1 April 2019.
Biovotec and its partners have been awarded an R&D grant under the EU Eurostars program. The goal of this project, called Deepcure, is the development of a novel and affordable 3D biomaterial based on Purified Eggshell membrane Protein (PEP) for deep wounds and burns.
Today, many hospitals cannot afford to use the currently available advanced tissue engineering-based solutions for treating these wounds due to cost considerations. Based on their relatively high perceived cost, there are difficulties in establishing clear cost/benefit conclusions in the treatment of trauma wounds which vary widely in their presentation. Therefore, there is an urgent need for a product that would significantly reduce treatment costs while delivering equivalent outcomes to current tissue engineering based products.
Based on our experience in developing DermaRep™, also based on PEP technology, Biovotec is now developing and optimizing 3D biomaterials which we expect will be available for clinical evaluation at the end of the project period.
